Is this therapy only for people diagnosed with BPD?
No. Although DBT was initially developed by Marsha Linehan for women with borderline personality disorder (1997), research has shown that DBT may be beneficial for anyone who struggles with intense emotionality and problems in living, no matter what diagnosis, or if there is a diagnosis of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, personality issues, eating disorder, or substance use issues. I have used a DBT approach across different ages, gender, and diagnosis, and my clients tell me it has been very helpful. You can not fail DBT therapy.
